Even as a 4-year-old boy, Alvaro de Marichalar of Spain loved being on the water, so much so that his mother would tell him, “You’re not a man, you’re a fish,” he said.
His passion has taken him on 39 expeditions since 1982, including a trans-Atlantic voyage. On April 3, he marked one of the last stops on his 39th journey by arriving in St. Augustine after traveling 1,624 miles via jet ski from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The journey began on March 20.
